Me Time!

I first used this phrase about twenty years ago, when a frustrated client couldn’t reach me on phone over the weekend. He asked me why my phone was off on a Sunday, yet I was in biashara (as in we should be open for business 24/7 😳🥵). I cutely replied, ‘’I was having ‘me-time’. He looked at me like I had spoken in Congolese!

I kept the practice of ‘me time’ (self-care) religiously, until about ten years ago, when I decided I wasn’t that important anyway and began the red-hot pursuit of chasing the I-do-not- know-what-dream-but-I-will-know-it-when-I-get-there, sort of situation (for my peeps, the buroti maguta maguta dream). Life became all about responsibilities, roles and everything in between. But the more I pushed myself, the more I kept failing and the more I kept failing, the more I got frustrated. I struggled. I struggled to sleep and struggled to keep awake. My default brain’s ring tone was failure, failure, failure.

However, a couple of months ago, I decided to resuscitate the ‘me time’ discipline again. I dusted, tweaked and have worked it religiously, ever since. Then one morning, not too long ago, as I was walking down the stairs on our apartment block, it dawned on me that that nasty little voice in my head that used to keep interrupting me, had been switched down low to almost mute level. On a scale of 1/100, it now reads 0.0000001%. And for a minute I wondered what happened, then boom! Me time! ME TIME was back!

So get your good self back to where you belong, the front burner.

If you cannot be the change you want to see, then any sort of transformation, cannot happen.

Ni hayo tu kwa sasa... cheers!
